Jonathan Miller
For those who would like to read a really positive review by me, have a look at my review of the collected writings of Jonathan Miller in the latest New York Review of Books. Now that was a pleasure to write. I must have written about a hundred reviews by now, some more positive than others. I think you will find a normal distribution of positives and negatives.
Beautifully written piece in NYRB, Colin. JM is one of those all-but-inexplicable forces of nature. You bring this out nicely.
On page 7 of the Review there’s an endorsement for Peter Singer’s new book, The Most Good You Can Do (Yale UP), that calls him “the world’s most influential living philosopher . . .” I’d be interested to have your response to this.
Thanks–yes, JM is one of a kind.
Singer has a strong claim to be the most practically influential living philosopher, and indeed he has done a lot of good for animals.
