I think it is worse than stupidity, Australian PM is simply looking to gain popularity to stop sliding in polls due to his government locking down the nation without any success to slow down the spread of the pandemic. If Djoker had COVID in mid-Dec, gained natural immunity and is testing negative — what are the grounds for not letting him play in a completely controlled AO environment with daily tests? Whom is he endangering as long as he is negative? Not to mention that the guy won 9 AOs and is on the verge of making history. Not sure why you blame the British for this Aussie bureaucracy and political nonsense by the way…

I completely agree with your analysis: how can it be in the “public interest” to prevent him from playing given that he will be a danger to no one. I blame the British because they were the origin of these two countries (America and Australia).

Australian Open will be worse off now that Djokovic is deported. Useless (and worse) bureaucrats won short term and lost mid term. At least the Australian Supreme Court said that their decision was on whether the minister who signed the deportation order did so within the mandate provided by the Aussie law. The judge emphasized that they did not rule on whether Djoker had to be deported due to COVID or any other violation of local regulation. Sad times & not only in the US.

Yes, Novak may have done all sorts of things wrong, and be a complete idiot about vaccination, but it was a mistake to exclude him from the tournament. It will be sadly reduced without him.
