Delusional Narcissist
I notice that my favorite projective paranoid, Brian Leiter, has taken to calling me a delusional narcissist (clear-eyed sentimentalist would be more accurate). Why not throw in bipolar schizophrenic or depressive psychopath? Anything goes, right. Completely ridiculous, but so what. Why, Brian, why? But don’t let me stop you, old chap. You are clearly suffering from advanced ego fragility or manic-aggressive fantasy disorder or chronic sundered personality syndrome or… I’m sure it’s all in fun, no ill will intended, so no offense taken. Cheers, DN.
Leiter also speculates that he is on my “vendetta list”, based on what I don’t know. Let me assure you, my dear Brian, that you are not on my vendetta list, since I don’t have one. You are, however, on other of my mental lists (of an evaluative nature). Let me also add that in addition to calling me a “delusional narcissist” he also called me an “asshole” in one of his earlier emails–no doubt an expression of his commendably gritty “New York personality”. All very delightful.
I do not know what Leiter’s demons are, but he is one of these people whose personality radically changes when he is on social media, and for the much, much worse. A poor ambassador for our profession.
I’ll resist the temptation to comment but I do wish the nonsense would stop. Philosophy in America is becoming far too much like America in general (Trump is just the illustrative extreme).
I love how you think
That’s nice, though I’m not sure why this post merits your encomium.
